Malibu Triathlon Set For Sept. 17, 18 | Malibu, CA Patch

MALIBU, CA — Hopefully you've been training, because the 2XU Malibu Triathlon is fast approaching.

The beloved and challenging annual tradition is set for Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 starting with races starting at Zuma Beach. As always, the Malibu Triathlon will benefit pediatric cancer research at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

The Olympic distance relay and solo races will kick off at 7 a.m Saturday, with the "Classic Distance" races following at 7 a.m. Sunday. The Olympic race includes a 1.5 kilometer swim, a 40 kilometer bike ride and a 10 kilometer run. The "Classic Distance" includes a 0.5 mile swim, 17 mile bike ride and a four mile run.

The top three participants in each division, divided by age, gender, relay, and individual, will receive awards for their showing, and every participant will receive a finisher's medal.

This year's event has already raised nearly $340,000 of its $1,100,000 goal, according to the triathlon's website. To date, the race has raised $16 million for Children's Hospital Los Angeles, according to a Super League Triathlon representative.

Over 5,000 people participated in last year's Triathlon, including celebrities like actors Chace Crawford and Max Greenfield, according to a news release from the triathlon. Last year's event raised $849,288 for pediatric cancer research.

Now participating? Spectators are welcome for both races, and may even spot some celebrity participants.
